Social Credit

What is Social Credit? It is a resolution of the false Left/Right dialectical confrontation.

It covers the fields of Physics/Metaphysics; Economics/Finance; Philosophy/Politics from a Christian perspective.

The Canon of Rightness:

There is running through the nature of the Universe something that we call a canon. It is the thing which is referred to in the Gospel of John as the logos or the word. The engineer and the artist refer to it when they say that they have got something right. Other people mean the same thing when they talk about absolute truth or reality.

Genuine success only accompanies a consistent attempt to discover and to conform to this canon in no matter what sphere our activities may lie.  There is one single test which can be applied to any financial scheme which is put to you for consideration, and that is, whether it represents reality, just as we know that the fundamental falsity of the present financial system is that it distorts and perverts reality.

E.D.Butler from Social Credit and the Christian Philosophy

The Pursuit of Truth:

I am confident that just as departure from the canon has produced the appalling condition of the world at the present time, so the existence of a growing body of people who are aware of the situation, and singly devoted to bringing back understanding into relation with reality, constitutes not only the great, but the only certainty that eventually a world system founded upon lies will give way to one which is formed upon truth.

C.H.Douglas, from a paper: The Pursuit of Truth

One of the gifts of the Social Credit movement to the human mind is the term: the social credit. It is the name of something that exists in all societies but which never had a name before because it was taken for granted. We become aware of it only as we lose it. Credit is another name for faith or confidence which binds any society together – the mutual trust in each other without which fear is substituted for trust as the ‘cement’ of society. Law and order is a part of it, but only a small part.

The Social Credit:

How can we live in any sort of peace or comfort if we cannot trust our neighbours? How can any economic activity go forward – whether producing, selling or buying – if people cannot rely upon honesty and fair dealing? And what happens when the Christian concept of marriage and family and upbringing is abandoned? We see, do we not, that we are dealing with something real with desperately vital practical consequences?

Of course, social crediters are not the only people who are trying to promote the social credit. Most decent, sane people instinctively do so, including many God-fearing people of other religions and even some atheists who are living on the moral capital of their parents or teachers.

The Left/Right conflict is a divide-and-rule strategy:

The Left/Right conflict is a divide-and-rule strategy, and it is remarkable how closely it has succeeded in splitting the population down the middle, so that a ‘swing’ of only a few percent can change governments. If only one per cent of the energy formerly wasted on mere Leftism and now mere Rightism were to be directed towards the constructive resolution of the pathogenic Left/Right dialectical conflict, the course of history could be changed.

There is no ‘happy mean’ between monstrous borrowing to keep the economy going with massive handouts and strangling it with monetary restriction, between Liberal or Labor inflation, between multinational financial monopolies and State-controlled monopolies.

Geoffrey Dobbs from What is Social Credit?

Attempts to review individual Social Credit proposals in the light of orthodoxy are counter-productive: each theme exists within the framework of an alternative economic theory and social philosophy. Douglas' empirical observations of cost accounting and Orage's "Guild Socialism" created a powerful and entirely new critique of both capitalism and Marxist socialism..."

Frances Huthchinson & Brian Burkitt from The Political Economy of Social Credit & Guild Socialism
